Our Manufacturing Process for our Mouth Mask ZA

Poly Cotton - African Print

Benefits: Poly cotton is great indoors if you are working in factories or around machinery and its tear-resistant traits could be more desirable here.

Cotton-polyester blends (poly cotton) can be strong, wrinkle and tear-resistant, and reduce shrinking.

Which fabric is the best — Cotton vs. polyester vs. poly cotton? The answer depends on the type of garments you are making, but know that you getting the best of both worlds with poly cotton and the fabric will be cost-effective without sacrificing the quality.

When to use a homemade face mask?

A cloth mask (just like a buff) like the Mouth Mask ZA, if appropriately used, and cleaned, are now recommended by the South African Department of Health as described below: , as an alternative for medical, surgical or N95 masks for non-healthcare workers in particular: https://www.westerncape.gov.za/department-of-health/news/covid-19-cloth-masks-public-use

At the outset it is important to distinguish between medical masks, or N95 respirators, and cloth masks (either home-made or procured).

Do not use N95 Respirators and Medical masks unless you are a healthcare worker as there is a global shortage of these masks so the Department of Health urges all residents to not obtain or use these, so that we can ensure enough supply to the frontline healthcare workers in our hospitals and clinics)

Please refer to the most recent recommandations of the US Center for Prevention of Diseases:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/ppe-strategy/face-masks.html

In settings where facemasks are not available (especially for healthcare personnel), homemade masks might be used as a very last resort (e.g., bandana, scarf). However, homemade masks are not considered PPE ("Personal Protective Equipment"), since their capability to protect is unknown. Caution should be exercised when considering this option.

Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front (that extends to the chin or below) and sides of the face.

Our Ethos: Seamless Delivery

How to use our Mouth Mask?

Our Mouth Mask can be used as preventative care: it will assist you in not touching your face which is one of the most common reasons for the spread of most germs, bacteria and viruses.

Again, Mouth Mask ZA does not intend and will not replace an N-95 mask but may help you if you have nothing else to wear.

The usage of any type of mask should be accompanied by strictly adhering to safe use guidelines. Wash your hands before applying and after removing a mask, never touch the cloth part, never fiddle with it whilst wearing, refrain from touching your face.

Wash cloth masks with warm soapy water and iron when dry.

The simple guidelines to use (in line with the recommendations of the South African Department of Health) are:

  • Only use a mask that has been cleaned & ironed
  • Place the mask with the correct side facing your nose and mouth and covering both well
  • Tie the strings behind your head, or if you are using elastic bands, make sure these are tight
  • Make sure it fits well. Move it around to get the best fit. Never touch the cloth part.
  • Once you have put on the mask, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE again until you take it off
  • When you take it off, undo the ties, and carefully fold the mask inside out, hold it by the strings/elastic and place the mask in a container preserved for washing the cloth mask.
  • Wash hands thoroughly and dry before doing anything else

How to wash our Mouth Mask and how long can you keep them for?

Our Mouth Masks are designed to be washed in high temperatures and therefore you will be able to re-use them!

We would recommend purchasing at least two for yourself so that you can alternate them throughout the working day.

  • Wash the mask daily in soap and hot water (tolerated during hand wash).
  • Rinse thoroughly and dry
  • IRON THE MASK on low to medium heat - this is the one of the best means of disinfection!

These recommendations are in line with the recommendations of the South African Department of Health (Source:  https://www.westerncape.gov.za/department-of-health/news/covid-19-cloth-masks-public-use)

What Mouth Mask is not?

Mouth Mask is not a medical nor a surgical mask (including N-95 respiratory mask). This is a protective mask that will help you limit the number of physical contacts between your face and the external environment (including your fingers ^^).

Please check the World Health Organisation guidelines when it comes to the types of face masks might help you: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-use-masks

Hygiene Guidelines

image67

Stay Safe!

Firstly, a mask is not a solve-all solution in the fight of Covid-19 and should never be used in isolation of basic good hygiene considerations. The most important thing every resident should do is:

  • Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water
  • Do not touch your face with unwashed hands
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or the corner of your arm, and safely throw away the tissue
  • Keep a distance of 1,5m from others
  • If you are ill, stay at home, or arrange for clinical assessment
  • This should be adhered to at all times, regardless of whether you have a mask or not.

Wearing  a mask does not make you invulnerable and should never be a reason not to follow these basic golden rules.
